When buying a chair or an office armchair , the question of casters frequently arises. Several criteria come into play when choosing a seat on which you will spend many hours. The ergonomics of the office chair, the nature of the floor, with or without arms and other accessories… so many elements to take into consideration before even succumbing to the charm of its design.
WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF A CASTOR SEAT?
Before even dwelling on the ergonomics and comfort of the office chair, the question of wheels is essential.
FLOOR
Depending on the coating, thick carpet, fragile floor, you can immediately banish the wheels. On the other hand, on a short carpet or with tight loops, tiles, a floating floor, there is the possibility of choosing an office chair with wheels.
USER MOVEMENTS
If the office is surrounded by storage furniture containing files or useful documentation throughout the working day, it is better to choose an office chair with wheels. Then adapt the floor by adding a smooth surface like linoleum.
If desk accessories are close at hand, if you don't have to get up too frequently, casters are useless. A swivel seat (or not) may suffice.
STABILITY
Some wheeled chairs can be unstable on hard floors. It is difficult for them to stay in place without having to block the wheels with the brake. Resistance to incongruous movements can cause attitude problems and back pain.

Your back should be wrapped and supported at the lumbar level. You must be able to stay in the working position when moving around if the seat has wheels.
DESIGN
An office chair for work and a gamer chair have different styles, but their comfort must be optimal. The colors and the shape of the seat must harmonize with the design of the office, room and furniture, for better concentration. Depending on the use of the seat, consider the energy of the colors and the correspondence of the style with the rest of the room.
WITH OR WITHOUT ARMS
With or without wheels, the office chair can have a high or low backrest. It can have arms, or it can lack them. If you have to take breaks in front of the computer at the office, to think for example, the armrests are a definite advantage. They prevent the arms and especially the hands from being positioned too low. It should indeed be known that keeping the limbs in height facilitates the recovery of energy and therefore avoids fatigue. Also, the arms should not be hampered by the armrests while working.
Whatever your choice, with or without wheels, remember to protect your back. The shape and height of the back take precedence over the color of the seat, but the presence of the armrests like that of the wheels must be considered before the purchase.
